Canva or Tenawar for your wedding invitation?
Most couples in Egypt design their invitation in Canva and send the picture on WhatsApp. It works, and for some weddings it is the right choice. This is an honest look at what each one gives you — written by Tenawar, so read it knowing that, and check the parts that matter to you.
What Canva does well
Canva is a design tool, and a very good one. You start from thousands of templates or a blank page and can change anything: layout, fonts, colours, illustrations. The same design can go to a print shop, to Instagram, or to WhatsApp as a picture. Canva also offers wedding website templates and its own forms, so an RSVP form is possible inside Canva, with the answers collected in a Canva sheet.
Where a picture on WhatsApp falls short
The common way of using Canva — design a picture, send it to every chat — leaves the work after the sending to you. Replies arrive as messages in dozens of chats, and counting who is coming means scrolling back through all of them. A picture cannot change once it is sent: if the hall or the time moves, you send a new picture and hope the old one is forgotten. The location is a line of text rather than directions, and an aunt in Dubai has to work out for herself that the time is Cairo time.
What Tenawar does differently
Tenawar is built for the part after the design. You send one link instead of a picture. The invitation opens in Arabic, English or both, and a guest can switch between them. Guests reply on the invitation itself, saying how many are coming, and every reply lands in one list you can read at a glance. Each event — كتب الكتاب and the فرح, say — gets its own time and its own map with directions. If something changes, you edit it and publish again, and the same link shows the new details. There are ready layouts for weddings, كتب كتاب, إكليل, engagements and birthdays, and guides to the wording.
Where Tenawar is not the right tool
If you want complete control over every element of the design, Canva gives you more freedom: Tenawar’s themes are designed for you, and you change their content, photos and style choices rather than drawing the layout yourself. If you want a printed card, Tenawar does not print. And if you only need a picture for a WhatsApp status and do not care who replies, a Canva design is quicker.
Using both
Many couples do not have to choose. Design a card in Canva for print, for the elders who want something in their hand, or for a status — and put the Tenawar link under it for everyone who needs the details and wants to reply. You can also upload your Canva design as a cover photo on the Tenawar invitation, so the two look like one.
What it costs
Canva has a free plan and paid plans; check its site for current prices. Tenawar is free for invitations of up to 50 guests. A one-time payment of EGP 500 per invitation raises that to 600 guests, removes the Tenawar name from the invitation, and adds a downloadable list of replies. There is no subscription.
Common questions
- Can I collect RSVPs with Canva?
- Yes. Canva has its own forms, and the answers collect in a Canva sheet. The difference is that the form is a separate thing you link to, where Tenawar’s reply is part of the invitation and the replies come back already counted.
- Can I use my Canva design in Tenawar?
- Yes, as a cover photo. Export it from Canva as an image and upload it to the invitation’s cover.
- Which one works better for guests abroad?
- A link carries more than a picture: the time with its city, a map that opens in the guest’s own maps app, and a reply that arrives without a phone call. That is where Tenawar is strongest.
